Shopp Toolbox Released

by Adam Sewell · Comments (0)
17 Nov

As of now, the Shopp Toolbox has been released. From this point forward, as new plugins (or other Shopp related items) are created by MyGeek Computer Services, they will be added to the Toolbox for all subscribed customers to enjoy. In fact, we have a Shopp add-on in beta testing that will be added to the collection just as soon as we’re confident it’s ready for prime time.

So, come one, come all, and grab your copies of the new Shopp Toolbox.

Stripe Payment Gateway

16 Nov

I just finished up work on a Shopp payment gateway for the new and promising Stripe.com. With fees close to what PayPal has and no monthly charges, Stripe looks pretty awesome for a small business. The gateway is currently in beta and will be released shortly as part of the Shopp Toolbox

Shopp 1.2, WordPress SEO and SiteMaps

by Adam Sewell · Comments (0)

As some may know, Shopp 1.2 will be making an appearance in the coming months. With that, Shopp will be sporting a new use of WordPress’ Custom Post Types (CPT). In the past, Shopp had it’s own way of storing products and categories. So along with the new “sub-system”, Shopp will be compatible (theoretically) with any plugin that makes use of CPTs.

One such example is the WordPress SEO (wpseo) plugin from Yoast. For some time, there had been no *easy* way to include all products and categories within the site map. There was a custom plugin developed for this but has since been abandoned and is no longer working. In an attempt to develop a plugin to bridge this gap, I noticed in my testing that wpseo was automatically generating the sitemaps for the products and categories of Shopp. What glorious news! But wait, there’s more. Shopp 1.2 isn’t expected to be out for at least another month and possibly longer.

Since there are people out there who may not want to upgrade to 1.2 when it comes out, I’m debating writing a simple plugin to hook into wpseo to hold those people over until they do upgrade.

But in the end, yay for CPTs.

Update (11/05/2011): For the sitemap integration, I decided to go with the Google XML Sitemap plugin instead of Yoast. This plugin will be available with the Shopp Toolbox.

19 Sep

I just finished up work on a Shopp Facebook integration plugin that adds a Facebook “Like” button and (optionally) the ability to comment on each product within a Shopp store. I have released this just yet, but I will soon.

Programmatically adding items to Shopp’s Cart

5-1-12 Update: As of Shopp 1.2.x this is no longer valid. You should use the built-in API in 1.2.x

I’ve seen this come up a few times in the support channels and until now I haven’t had the opportunity to research or implement this. That is, programmatically adding items to the cart. I had the opportunity today to make a unique order form in which had multiple products displayed within the same form and with the functionality to add selected products to the cart. While what I came up with isn’t truly programmatically adding items, you can use the same functions to achieve it.
